The Mitsubishi i may be a small car, but it's proving to be a big success. The first batch of 300 cars has long since sold out and now the next 1,500 are largely spoken for into 2008.

Those first 300 cars flew out of UK showrooms in less than three weeks of the car going on sale in July this year. Now, a further 1,500 are promised for British buyers and these are being snapped up, with more than half already spoken for.

Demand for the uniquely styled city car is so big that Mitsubishi is even considering importing more i models to the UK. The i has proved particularly popular in the south east of England, where fears over increased Congestion Charges in London have fuelled increased sales of small cars.

To broaden the i's appeal, Mitsubishi is also planning a diesel version of the i, and possibly even a zero emissions electric model due in 2009.
