Go Crazy in an Aygo

Crowd pleaser or motoring teaser?

Toyota is showing its fun side at the show with its bonkers Aygo Crazy one-off. Conceived, designed and built in Britain this is one Aygo that's gone a little mad, the engine no longer being where it should be up front. Instead, it's behind the front seats, this a mid-engined city car.

Stand out features?

Aside from the outrageous bodywork and livery the Aygo Crazy's biggest stand-out feature is unquestionably the positioning of its engine. It's powered by a 1.8-litre unit borrowed from an MR2 Roadster, driving the rear wheels. As if that's not enough Toyota has fitted a turbocharger, boosting power to 200bhp and ensuring that no Aygo has or is ever likely to go quicker. Not that the Aygo Crazy is going anywhere for a while, it spending the entire duration of the show sitting still alongside its less extreme Toyota relatives.

Showroom soon or never to be seen?

This one's never going to make it into a showroom, unless a canny dealer borrows it off Toyota UK for display. A one-off, purely for fun, the Aygo Crazy is worth a visit to the show for alone.
