Tokyo news: Alpina B7 BiTurbo Limousine

Alpina, if you don't already know, is the specialist tuner of BMWs most notable for the uniqueness of its exterior makeovers. This is its latest creation: a long wheelbase version of the 7 Series-based B7 BiTurbo. Sensible it isn't.

What's all the fuss about?

Any new Alpina is likely to cause a stir, although to be frank this is about as low-key as an Alpina launch gets. We've already seen the B7 BiTurbo (you can buy one now, in fact), but we still think this longer version deserves a mention. Just look at it.

Anything that stands out?

The extra 140mm of length added to the standard car, as per the difference between a standard 7 Series and an 'L' version. Other than that, and a steering wheel circumference enlargement, it's as per the B7 BiTurbo proper. That means there's a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet with 507bhp and 516lb.ft of tyre-shredding torque. Presumably, then, this is the car of choice for the CEO who likes his driver to have some fun behind the wheel.

When can I buy one?

From now, although have a lot of cash set aside because this beast returns fuel economy in the low twenties. Have a sick bag set aside too - 4.8 seconds to 62mph will be pretty nausea inducing from the back seat. There's no word on price yet, but expect little change from an envelope with a six-figure sum in it.
