Tesla Roadster in UK

If you think that electric motoring is all capitalised names and ugly little plastic cars then think again. The Tesla Roadster is the darling of Hollywood, a sports car that you can drive with a clean conscience. Based on Lotus's aluminium underpinnings the Hethel company has been closely involved in its development - so it should handle brilliantly. It promises performance to match its cool looks too, 60mph arriving in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 125mph.

Drive it hard and it's unlikely you'll get anywhere near the 220-mile claimed range, but take it easy and the Tesla betters everything here for miles between charges with a full recharge taking about 3.5 hours. The only thing that Tesla now needs to speed up is the production, only a trickle of cars coming out of its production facility at the moment when customer demand needs a big charge...
