Marcos Engineering has called time on production of its unique sports cars after entering into administration. The company says it will complete existing orders and then cease trading altogether, with the subsequent sale of the business and all assets.
This is latest, and apparently final, episode in Marcos's rocky history, which has seen the company's fortunes rise and fall since it was founded in 1959 by Jem Marsh and Frank Costin. Marsh put the company into administration in 2000 and it was then bought by Tony Stelliga in 2002.
Stelliga revived Marcos with the all-new TS0 and GT models, which used a Corvette LS6 V8 engine. However, the market for hand-built British sports car costing £50,000 proved too small and Marcos Engineering was unable to turn a profit in five years of trading.
Stelliga said: "My sincerest gratitude goes to all those who worked with Marcos to revive the great British sports car name. Regrettably, we couldn't sustain the business."
