Think of Toyota nowadays and you more than likely to come up with the Prius. Well, here's a Toyota to show that the Japanese firm still knows how to make full-fat SUVs, even if this one has class leading emissions and economy.
The new 4.5-litre V8 turbodiesel has 282bhp and a colossal 479lb.ft of pulling power to play with. Driving through a six-speed automatic gearbox and full-time four-wheel drive, the V8 still manages 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds. However, it is capable of 27.7mpg combined economy and produces 270g/km of carbon dioxide emissions, which are both better than a Range Rover TDV8's figures.
The Land Cruiser V8 replaces the Amazon, which is clear from this car's styling, and continues the large Toyota's go-anywhere attributes with a separate chassis for rugged off-road work. Further enhancing off-road ability is the new four-wheel Active Height Control that helps keep the wheels in contact with the ground during extreme off-road driving.
Toyota has not forgotten about the Land Cruiser V8's luxury side and this £55,995 SUV comes with four-zone climate control, satnav, rear parking monitor, DVD player and leather seats all as standard. It also has seven seats included in the price and no less than 14 airbags. Sales begin on 15 February in the UK.
