America is a huge market so it is no surprise that Bentley chose an American show to debut its new super convertible, the Continental GTC. Though the Continental is not as large a car as previous Bentley leviathans, it conceals a package all about numbers.

Under the smooth bonnet is a 6-litre engine with its twelve cylinders arranged in a 'W' formation. In the GTC, this engine produces over 550bhp and a massive 650Nm of torque. Despite tipping the scales at 2.5 tonnes, the GTC can sprint to 60mph in only 4.8 seconds on the way to a faintly ridiculous 195mph top speed, or 'only' 190mph if the electric roof is folded away.

Let's face it though, if you want to travel at such speeds you won't want to be in an open-topped car. The Continental GTC should prove to be the perfect companion to an extravagant weekend away in Monte Carlo or Portofino, where its elegant top-down looks and lavish interior are all that matters.
