Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion
Though not new to the rest of the world, the Polo Bluemotion did make its Chinese debut at the Shanghai Show. VW has billed this special Polo as "the most economical five-seater in the world" thanks to myriad measures that help the car achieve an astounding fuel consumption of 3.9 litres/100km - that's 72.4mpg in old money.
With such focus on greenhouse gases and global warming, it's also encouraging to hear that the Bluemotion Polo emits only 102g/km of CO
2 emissions.
The heart of this Polo is an ultra-efficient 1.4-litre three-cylinder turbodiesel engine and despite a potential range of more than 700 miles, it isn't exactly a slouch, with 79bhp contributing to a 0-62mph time of 12.8 seconds and a respectable top speed of 109mph. The latter is aided by enhanced aerodynamics, which include a new front bumper, grille and even a rear spoiler, all designed to reduce drag.
There's a disclaimer though with regards to the car's introduction in China: the full fuel economy can only be achieved on good quality diesel, which is not yet widely available in the country.
