Volvo has released the first exterior image of the S60 concept car it plans to display at the Detroit Show in January and it indicates a sexy new direction for Volvo styling.
Synonymous with ground breaking safety technology and family-friendly motoring, the Swedish company now hopes to inject a dose of excitement into its bread-and-butter models.
The S60 concept closely reflects how the new S60 saloon will look when it hits the market in 2010, with a coupé-like profile that encompasses four doors and a stylish cabin.
Volvo already previewed the interior of the new S60 concept by releasing an image of the shapely centre console, which is constructed by hand from Orrefos crystal.
"The inspiration comes from the Swedish coastline's cliffs and seas," explains Volvo Cars' design director, Steve Mattin. He adds: "The concept car's exterior gives a clear indication of what customers can expect of the all-new S60. On the inside we've been even more daring - there the focus has been on creating a vision of the future."
Volvo will give the new concept its first airing at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009.
