Coupés from the Koreans were the talk of the show in New York, Hyundai's production-ready Genesis wowing the crowds, its sister company Kia showing a smart coupé, this time in concept form. Unlike the Hyundai offering, the Kia Koup is front-wheel drive, its power coming from a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 290bhp. Although dubbed a concept, the Koup's interior looked near production ready and with a few flash show-car deletions from the outside the exterior too looks ready to go. The frontal styling might be a bit generic, but overall the Koup is an exciting, smart looking machine.

Designed in California, the Koup is said to exhibit a new design direction for the Korean firm. As ever though it's the potential pricing and specifications that are certain to enhance even further the appeal of any production model. There isn't currently any official plan as yet to bring any eventual production model into the UK, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility - so if you want one start lobbying your Kia dealer now.
