The Peugeot RC Z concept coupe will become a production reality and will be on sale by 2010.

First seen at the Frankfurt motor show in 2007, the Audi TT rival will make its production-ready debut at the 2009 Frankfurt show.

Sales of the RC Z will then start early in 2010, with prices expected to begin at just under £20,000.

The RC Z is based on Peugeot's 308 platform and is likely to use the French firm's turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine.

This is the same unit already seen in the 207 GTi with 175bhp and the RC Z is likely to have the option of a more powerful 220bhp version.

Peugeot insiders say the company is keen to add a more upmarket coupe model, but it must also be economical and have low emissions.

No one at Peugeot will comment on how similar the production car will be to the concept except to say that the show car is close to production.
