Toyota has developed a new computer simulated crash test dummy that will be used to make racing cars safer before it's then applied to road cars.
The Total Human Model Safety (THUMS) gives accurate data about how the human body reacts in an accident.
This information can then be used to make the car - whether it's a racer or road car - stronger and safer in the event of a crash.
Together with the FIA Institute, the THUMS has already proved very effective at analysing how cars perform in crashes.
It has been used to study how high speed rear impacts cause spinal injuries and how best to avoid this serious damage to the human body.
Both Toyota and the FIA Institute say the THUMS is already making a significant contribution to race car safety and it will be just as important to road cars in the near future.
