The Car of the Year 2010 nominations have been announced, with 30 new contenders shortlisted for the coveted prize.
Toyota's recent new model splurge results in five of the company's vehicles making the grade, including the iQ city car, the Verso MPV, Avensis, Urban Cruiser and Prius hybrid.
Nissan isn't far behind, with three finalists including the Pixo, Cube and the 370Z coupé, while Hyundai's i20 and ix55 SUV both make the grade.
To be considered for the award, a car must be available at the time of voting in at least five European countries, with estimated sales of at least 5,000 units per year.
