Honda CR-V
The CR-V is a real success story for
Honda and though the previous generation model goes about its business in almost an anonymous fashion, the latest offering deserves comparison with any other car in the sector. It has grown up in many ways, though Honda is still keen to point out that it is a car designed for the road first and foremost, with the added versatility offered by extra ground clearance and a quick-thinking part-time four-wheel drive system.
Entry-level models in the CR-V range are the cheapest of the five cars featured here and the 2.0-litre petrol engine is an efficient enough choice. The choice of the line-up though is undoubtedly the 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.
Developed by Honda itself (this is actually the company's first ever turbodiesel engine engineered in house), this unit set new levels of refinement when it was launched and it remains one of the best units of its type in any car. The rest of the CR-V won't disappoint either, with a feeling that it's unbreakable and loads of space for all the family.
