Volkswagen Tiguan
It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and hype of a new model launch, but it must be said that customers want to be seen in the latest new cars, at times regardless of how the new car stacks up against rivals. So it may be with VW's first compact SUV, the new Tiguan launched this week to the world's media.
VW's entry into a market segment dominated by the
Land Rover Freelander and cars from the Japanese manufacturers is arguably a little late, but it's a growing niche so there's no such thing as too late and the VW badge will hold a lot of cachet for buyers. The Tiguan itself is a competent offering with plenty of interior space, good kerb-climbing ability and a feeling of solidity buyers will love. The characteristic VW styling is pleasant rather than exciting, but the visual link with the Touareg will do it no harm whatsoever.
