MINI John Cooper Works Cooper S

The name might be a tongue twister, but for big fun in a small package you really can't go wrong with a MINI. And this new John Cooper Works Cooper S is certain to be the best, the JCW alterations further enhancing an already entertaining package. The most obvious change to the spec sheet is the boost in power, the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine now boasting 211bhp. That increase has been achieved by modifications that MINI has tested on its MINI Challenge race cars, the enhancements including new specially polished pistons, a strengthened cylinder head, and a larger turbocharger.

The result of those changes is obviously a faster MINI, the JCW Cooper S managing the benchmark 0-62mph sprint in just 6.5 seconds. That performance isn't at the expense of economy either, the JCW Cooper S still managing a respectable 40.4mpg and 165g/km. Sharper suspension and bigger brakes should ensure that extra performance can be enjoyed to the maximum, while standard equipment has also grown in line with the JCW's range-topping status.
