Concept cars usually fall into two categories: pure fantasy or near-production. At first glance, you'd expect the exuberant Peugeot 908 RC concept to fit neatly into the former. Admittedly, it's highly unlikely that the French company will ever make a rear-engined, four-seat limousine with 700bhp...

However, the mechanicals of the concept are very real and will be clothed with something with a little less luxurious when they make their debut at Le Mans next year. That's right, this concept car is powered by none other than Peugeot's new V12 diesel race engine, designed to take the fight to the dominant Audi R10.

If you don't care much for sportscar racing then ignore the concept's underside and instead concentrate on the glorious feline detailing, including a lion's 'face' complete with whiskers. Inside, the 908's designers have been given an equally free rein and if nothing else, this car will draw the crowds at Peugeot's home show.
