Mitsubishi has been teasing us for long enough with talk of the Evo X, supposedly a departure from the previous nine iterations of the cult brand. We've been promised that the car to be shown in Detroit, called simply the Prototype X, will be the final show car before the showroom-ready model is revealed at the end of 2007.

The regular Lancer saloon will make its world debut in Detroit too, though it is likely to be ignored on the show stand with the edgy Prototype X hogging all the limelight. At the time of writing, only a few sketches of the show car are available, but they are said to be accurate enough, showing a be-winged version of the Lancer complete with bulging wheelarches, a rear diffuser and twin exhausts. Let's hope that the Evo X looks as good.
