Despite forays into other market segments, with the stylish C30 and the XC90 SUV, Volvo's mainstay is still the estate car and the company will reveal an all-new V70 in Geneva next week, alongside a soft-roader XC70 version.

The V70's styling, though still conservative, assumes a more athletic stance than before. The front-end bears resemblance to its larger stable mate, the S80, while the rear-end sports styling cues first seen on the C30 and reinforced by the XC60 concept unveiled in Detroit. The V70's revised tailgate includes a larger opening and a rear window that extends further down to improve rearward visibility. The rear pillars are adorned with prominent tail lamps - a now familiar Volvo trait - fitted with LED brake lights that flash during emergency stops.

We'll take a closer look at the V70 line-up once the car has been unveiled in Geneva.
