Audi is expanding the TT range with the arrival of a turbodiesel-powered model this summer.

The TT 2.0 TDI quattro uses a 170bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel that will give 53.2mpg in the Coupé and 51.2mpg in the Roadster.

A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, as will quattro four-wheel drive.

Although not as quick from 0-62mph as the petrol-engined TT models, Audi says the diesel's mid-rev strength makes it quicker once on the move.

The TT 2.0 TDI has as much mid-range urge as the recently announced TTS model.

Performance for the TT 2.0 TDI sees 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and the Roadster covers the same sprint in 7.7 seconds. Top speeds are 140- and 138mph respectively.

The Coupé produces 145g/km of carbon dioxide emissions, which is 34g/km less than the 2.0-litre petrol TT.

Both the Coupé and Roadster TT 2.0 TDI quattros are on sale in the UK this summer and Audi will announce prices closer to then.
