Prototype Mitsubishi hatch revealed

Mitsubishi is breaking with tradition for the Lancer range and will offer a hatchback version later in 2008.

Demand in Europe has convinced Mitsubishi to build a hatch, which we get a first glimpse of in the Prototype-S concept that will be unveiled at the Geneva show next week.

The Prototype-S uses many styling cues from the Lancer Evo X, so it has 19-inch alloy wheels, the Evo X's bonnet and aggressive styling.

The rear has a sloping hatch and lights that are integrated into the tailgate.

Expect a toned-down version of the Prototype-S towards the end of 2008, which Mitsubishi reckons will account for 80% of Lancer sales in the UK.
