When the hybrid version of the new ultra-luxury Lexus LS goes on sale this year, it will herald another world first. According to Lexus, it will be the "world's first vehicle to feature a full hybrid V8 powertrain". No fear of it being labelled as a car for the tree huggers then!

No, the LS 600h is to represent a more responsible way to enjoy your super luxury car, without sacrificing performance or, well, luxury.

Thanks to the addition of two high-output electric motors to a new 5-litre V8 engine, total system power output is said to be 435bhp. The motors sit at either end of the car, providing four-wheel drive when required. Lexus claims that the system will add to the car's serene and effortless progress. We're looking forward to substantiating that claim for ourselves.
