With a few exceptions, the rest of the car market in the UK is made up of three-year, 60,000-miles warranties. There are a few that offer unlimited mileages, and a few that only offer two years, Lotus, Perodua and Porsche among them. So if you're after a new car then be sure to check up on what's on offer.
Sometimes dealers will offer extended warranties so be prepared to ask when you buy. Three years should be enough for most, but if you're the sort of person who buys their car with a view to hanging onto it then you might want to visit the showrooms of the manufacturers offering more generous warranty coverage. Especially if you intend to hang onto your car until it's eligible for a scrappage scheme of the future.
