The Skoda Superb provides loads of space and the next generation model that will be launched at the Geneva show in March is no different. However, the new Superb has a clever rear boot arrangement that allows the boot to open as normal or raise the rear window to cope with bigger items.
Skoda calls this innovative solution the 'twin door' system and it allows the Superb to carry up to 1,670-litres of cargo with the rear seats folded, which is more than many dedicated estate cars. The Czech firm says this is the first time such a rear hatch opening system has been offered to give the looks of a saloon with the practicality of a hatch.
As well as space, Skoda is looking to make the cabin more luxurious than the original Superb's. Expect to see most versions fitted as standard with satellite navigation and an iPod connector, while the materials used for the cabin will also take a step up in quality and appearance.
The Superb will be offered with a range of three petrol and three diesel engines. The smallest petrol is the super- and turbocharged 1.4-litre TSI and the largest is the 3.6-litre V6 with four-wheel drive and DSG sequential manual gearbox. There is also a 2.0-litre petrol. Turbodiesels are taken care of by a 1.9-litre and a pair of 2.0-litres with 138- and 167bhp.
