Reinventing the... roof

A new lightweight roof for convertibles could make it easier to fold and raise the roof.

It can also save weight on a convertible car to help improve economy and reduce emissions.

The new roof is called 'Light' and is made by German specialist Webasto.

The roof comes in at only 13kg for a two-seater sports car design and does without a complex frame.

It simply flips up and over from the rear of the car to protect the interior from the elements.

The Light uses high-tech modern materials to reduce weight and give it greater flexibility than more traditional roofs.
