BMW pays Hommage with concept

BMW has showed off its Hommage concept car as a tribute to its original M1 supercar.

The Hommage was seen at the glamorous Villa D'Este concours, which is essentially a fashion show for classic cars.

Taking its styling cues from the 1970's M1, the Hommage has the same sweeping rear buttresses and twin BMW badges on either side.

The wheels are also a stylised update of the original M1's multi-spoke design.

Paul Bracq was the man who styled the original M1 and the Hommage retains the same overall profile.

However, the Hommage's front end does away with the M1's pop-up headlights in favour of sleek and slim trapezoidal units tucked under the bonnet's front lip.

BMW says the Hommage was created solely as an exhibit for the Villa D'Este show.

The blacked-out windows of the Hommage gave no hint to what its interior would look like.

BMW made no mention of what engine might be used in the Hommage or if the concept would ever be a driveable car.
