Mazda's LA Design Challenge Entry is perhaps the most visually striking, with looks inspired by...well, nothing we've ever seen. The Kaan demonstrates form-over-function at its most stunning, with a shape seemingly sculpted by the wind and a trident front splitter. If the devil joined Formula 1, this is probably what he'd choose. (Though he might paint it black. Or red.)
Two circles at the front tell us it's loosely a car, but then the wheels don't have any spokes - just a beam of electric blue light running across the centre of the frames. And that's because the wheels are central to Mazda's primary innovation for 2025 racing: roads that charge cars through the tyres. According to the Japanese maker, the roads in 2025 are surfaced with a 'sub-level electro-conductive polymer'. So, the all electric vehicle will run silently to 250mph, all the while being charged through the wheels without ever having to stop, and with no emissions whatsoever.
But the Kaan isn't designed to be a lone racer, rather part of a peloton - a closely knit pack of cars formed together like a group of cycle racers. The idea is that the closer together the cars in the pack get, the more aerodynamic it becomes. Interesting.
