Hyundai i10, Inexpensive i10

Some of the cars on this list have a bit of a reputation to live up to and let's face it, with the Fiat 500 you're paying for the image and marketing as much as you are what's underneath the skin. Hyundai's i10 has no such problem, which probably explains why prices start at just £7,400.

If you're trading in a used car eligible for the scrappage scheme then that price comes down to a barely believable £5,400. For a new car! It's the only five-door model featured in this list, so it's theoretically more practical, whether you're putting big or small people in the rear, and it's actually quite well equipped.

One of the most impressive pieces of 'kit' included as standard is a five-year warranty. Nothing like a bit of peace of mind. Just don't expect to set the neighbours' curtains twitching when you get home from the showroom.
