The new Kia Carens may not grab attention like the Truckster concept on the Fiat stand in Madrid, but it is more relevant to more people's lives. This is the latest midsize MPV to hit the market, and though it replaces a model of the same name in the Kia range, the new car is tasked with rivalling more established brands such as Mazda and Ford.

Kia continues to expand into established brands' territory and is no longer just the bargain basement choice. The new Carens has been designed with European tastes in mind, so what you get is a modern shape (if a tad bland) with the promise of decent driving dynamics and refinement. There is a choice of 2-litre petrol or diesel engine and indicating that this car is to compete with a wide range of MPVs, buyers can opt for a five-seat or seven-seat version, with decent adult accommodation claimed thanks to a new design of shallow fuel tank.
