Elfin began building cars in 1961 and have enhanced their high power to weight ratios and handling attributes over the years. The recent addition of the MS8 Streamliner, designed by GM’s Michael Simcoe, has taken Elfin to the next level.
Like its ancestors, the Streamliner was devised to garner the most performance in a compact package, but it also offers creature comforts like air conditioning and cruise control. The two-seater is still a ‘pure bred’ sports car by all accounts. The 1100kg Streamliner is motivated by a 5.7-litre V8 engine generating 329bhp and 343lb.ft of torque and can sprint to 62mph in 4.4 seconds.
Featuring a fully-adjustable independent suspension, large slotted and ventilated disc brakes and a six-speed gearbox, the Streamliner is the ideal track day special. But with diminutive gullwing-style doors that aren’t big enough for side windows, it’s better off in the Australian sun than on Britain’s wet roads.
