Now that the legendary Monaro has ceased production, there is a new Holden flagship to tear up the roads in the land of Oz. In standard trim the Holden Commodore is a sedate saloon that doesn’t appear to cloak anything special - but closer inspection of the SS V model reveals it is anything but a common saloon car.
A purposeful chin spoiler at the front and large 19-inch wheels protruding from behind the bulging wheel arches emphasise the SS V’s sporting stance, while a huge wing dominates the view through the rearview mirror. But it’s the underlying mechanicals that are truly impressive.
Fitted with a monumental all-alloy six-litre V8 engine producing 362bhp of power and 391lb.ft of torque, the SS V transmits power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Holden claims the new range-topping car is an exceptional performer. Who are we to doubt its ability?
