The Holden Efijy concept was created as a tribute to the 1953 Holden FJ, Australia’s most famous car. Unveiled at the 2005 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, the concept evokes the early 1950’s FJ design but features all-new technology under the curvaceous bodywork.
Powered by a supercharged six-litre V8 engine generating 644bhp, the Efijy concept is underpinned by the same chassis found in a modern day Chevrolet Corvette and features air-adjustable shock absorbers operated via a touch control LCD screen. Proximity sensors automatically open the doors to the coupe revealing a plush, retro-inspired cabin, while fan-cooled LED headlamps illuminate the road ahead.
The pillarless, custom coupe was designed by Holden Chief Designer Richard Ferlazzo back in 1989. His mission was to reincarnate the custom coupe designs of the 1930s while adding the flamboyant styling characteristic of post-war 1940s and 1950s cars. It’s too bad this one never did see production.
