With the number plate changing to '58' on September 1st, sales of personalised number plates are set to take a sharp increase, adding to the 120,000 personal plates already sold in 2008.
Used car website, motors.co.uk has put together a number of possible new personal plates based on the new '58' registration. The suggestions include HA5 8EEN, HI5 8IKE, HI5 8OAT, HI5 8ALL, IT5 8UST and HU5 8AND, which are all put forward with a celebrity's name, from Jordan to Beckham.
Katie Armitage of motors.co.uk said:
"The good news for many buyers is that the 58 plate opens up new opportunities to get a plate without the celebrity price tag. The DVLA offers over 2.5 million personalised plates with prices starting at £250 and there's a real opportunity for buyers to have some 58 plate fun whether they are buying a new or used car."
To date, the most expensive number plate sold in the UK was 'F1', which was auctioned off for £500,000. That pales into insignificance next to the £7.25 million an Emirati businessman paid for his '1' plate.
