It's big, brash and about to be launched at the Chicago motor show - meet the Hummer H3T pick-up. Based on the H3, Hummer says its new model with a flat-bed, open load bay creates its own niche within the large SUV market.
It's a niche that will not be created in the UK, however, as the H3T will not be made in right-hand drive. Hummer says it will sell the H3T in the rest of Europe, but production costs do not justify the switch to right-hand drive.
To make the most of its load bed, the H3T is more than half a metre longer than the standard car, all of it going into the rear pick-up space to make a 1.5-metre cargo space. American buyers will be offered a 5.3-litre V8 petrol engine with 300bhp, but European H3Ts will use the same five-cylinder 3.7-litre engine that is already used in the H3. A diesel is also expected to join the Hummer line-up by the end of 2009.
No word on prices yet and the H3T should be one sale in Europe at the start of 2009.
