Luxury and large engines have been set aside by Bentley for its Continental DC racer.
The electrically-powered race car runs off two 12-volt car batteries and has been designed to be as light as possible.
The one-seat racer has a carbon fibre body that is shaped to cut through the air and achieve a top speed of 40mph.
Narrow wheels and tyres cut rolling resistance and they have special covers to further reduce drag.
The Continental DC is entered in the Greenpower race series for electric vehicles.
There are 25 teams of schools and apprentices entered in the series, which aims to encourage young people into careers in engineering and technology.
A team of nine Bentley apprentices have worked in their spare time for 10 months to complete the Continental DC racer.
Their efforts have already won them the Spirit of Greenpower award at the first race event held at Goodwood racing circuit.
