Although there'll be plenty to see on Honda's stand at next month's Tokyo Show, car buyers - and enthusiasts in particular - will be keen to learn more about the CR-Z concept, as it's set to hit UK showrooms by summer 2010 as a truly sporty hybrid.
With styling inspired by Honda's original two-door CR-X coupés and the first Insight hybrid, the CR-Z's lines have not changed significantly since the concept was first unveiled at the 2007 show, but the new car is referred to as a 'prototype' and the car to go on sale next year will retain the 'CR-Z' name, which is said to mean Compact Renaissance Zero.
Despite the title, we don't expect the new hybrid to emit zero CO2, but it should be quite frugal as well as fun to drive. Very few technical details have been released, though we believe that the current Insight's 1.5-litre petrol engine has not been carried over. A major step forward for the CR-Z - in keen drivers' eyes anyway - will be the inclusion of a six-speed manual transmission, which has never before been offered with a hybrid powertrain.
Alongside the CR-Z in Tokyo, Honda will display the Skydeck concept, which is also hybrid powered. It seats six in a spacious cabin, which is accessible via elaborate opening doors.
Finally, Honda will reveal the EV-N electric city car concept. The company has no plans to put this cute, retro-style concept into production as yet, though it would be an interesting rival to Toyota's iQ.
More details will be revealed on the first press day of the Tokyo Show on October 21st.
