D1ANA plate set to fetch £100,000

A number plate is expected to reach a £100,000 price at auction tomorrow (December 1st) as fans of the late Princess Diana bid for the registration D1 ANA. The plate is part of a huge auction of unusual registration numbers and other motoring lots as part of the 'True Greats' sale by Coys held at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London.

Along with the D1 ANA registration, the sale includes 60 classic and sports cars. A 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing is expected to make £350,000, while a 2004 Ferrari Enzo is one of the stars of the auction and could reach £500,000. Also up for grabs are 58 guitars from famous rock and roll bands and a number of rare sporting guns.

A pre-sale party is planned for this evening, which celebrates Coys' 90th anniversary. A special cake in the shape of James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 has been baked to honour the occasion and it will be delivered in a classic Rolls-Royce.

Coys' Managing Director Chris Routledge said: "It's not every day a company celebrates its 90th anniversary and we intend this to be a great party as bidders look for that extra-special Christmas present."
