Porsche Boxster
When's it coming and what is it?
The replacement for Porsche's cracking two-seater only just sneaks into the tail end of 2004.
Why should I care?
The Boxster is the best compact prestige sportscar to drive and the replacement model ought to be an even better machine. Look out for detail changes to steering, chassis, brakes and the 2.7- and 3.2-litre flat-six engines. Porsche will be careful not to give the Boxster too much power, though, so as not to step on the more expensive toes of the 911. That said, a stonking 300bhp version is rumoured. The Boxster's styling will be subtly upgraded for a more aggressive look, with wider wheel arches, air intakes and bumpers. Inside, you'll find an all-new interior with a more contemporary dashboard design.
What makes it really special?
A new coupe bodystyle will become the most affordable Porsche at around £29,000 at today's prices. Otherwise, distinctive headlights and new body panels will ensure the new Boxster looks less like its big brother 911, with which it still shares a large number of parts.
