Peugeot 407
When's it coming and what is it?
The replacement for Peugeot's 406 goes on sale in May and will be anything but a bland remake of the old car thanks to a dramatic new nose treatment and smart new body styling. There's more than a hint of the hugely-successful 206's styling in the 407, which bodes well for sales.
Why should I care?
That amazing Ferrari look-alike grille, for a start. And the 407 is set to build on the reputation of the 406 as a comfortable-riding and roomy but stylish alternative to fleet fodder from Ford and Vauxhall. Peugeot's diesels are among the best, a vital factor for buyers in this country, where diesel engines are becoming ever more popular. And the estate looks particularly futuristic with a coupe-style rake to the rear three-quarter styling that's most unlike a load-lugger
What makes it really special?
Rep-mobiles are usually lumbered with safe and uninspired styling. Renault broke the mould with the Laguna and Peugeot looks to be following suit with the 407. And here's another neat little detail - the boot release is cleverly disguised as the '0' in the '407' badge.
