Peugeot Sesame
When's it coming and what is it?
A novel city car with a pair of MPV-style sliding doors and flexible interior, it's due to be revealed at next September's Paris motor show.
Why should I care?
The Sesame is set to break the city-car mould. The twin sliding-doors will make for easy access to the cabin, especially in the narrow bays typical of most car parks. And inside is a flat floor with a clever seating arrangement that allows flexible use of the space for people, luggage, DIY loads, bikes and so forth. This could be the most innovative city car ever to hit British roads yet.
What makes it really special?
The name for a start. Peugeot hasn't used a name for its cars in recent memory, preferring numbers instead. But to distinguish the clever Sesame from the entry-level £7000 107 hatch (on sale in early 2005), Peugeot looks likely to go for a name. But expect to pay for the novelty of its interior. The Sesame is expected to overlap mid-range 206s in price, suggesting a £9,500 starting price.
