Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
When's it coming and what is it?
The first of Ferrari's 196mph four-seat GTs will be delivered in the summer to those lucky enough to already be on the waiting list.
Why should I care?
If you have an ounce of petrol in your blood, any new Ferrari is worth caring about, especially one that replaces the handsome ten-year old 456GT. But there's also an aluminium spaceframe body hung with alloy panels, a 540bhp 5.7-litre V12, a six-speed manual gearbox, and a leather clad cabin for luxurious motoring. Crucially, though, there's actually more space inside than with the 456GT, and a boot big enough to swallow two sets of golf clubs - that's apparently something that marketing men demand these days. There's another neat touch in the cabin for real enthusiasts (or show-offs) - a little plaque to remind passengers of just how many Formula One titles Ferrari has won recently. Lots, is the answer.
What makes it really special?
Apart from that badge and a £146,000 price tag, the 612 Scaglietti is a thoroughbred four-seat GT coupe, a rarity even today. But the driving experience was also given priority in the design - the V12 engine is actually mounted behind the front axle to give the best weight balance from front to rear, which delivers the best handling balance. And if that isn't enough, here is a car that will take the owner and three friends from 0-60mph in about four seconds and on to a top speed just shy of 200mph.
