We were treated to the wonderful MINI Concept Frankfurt at last month's Frankfurt Show, disguising the next Mini facelift as well as previewing a new extended model in the vein of the original Mini Traveller. Though that concept car incorporated extravagant detailing including sophisticated door opening hinges and a clamshell bonnet, it was actually rather tasteful, even making do with wheel trims as opposed to oversized alloys, as would be the norm with most other concepts.
Taste and restraint went out the window in transforming the Frankfurt version of the car into the MINI Concept Tokyo... For starters the wheels have been replaced with gaudy gold, silver and grey five-spoke alloy items. Hopefully these will never to see the light of a MINI showroom. The gold colour also shows its face in the mesh of the front grille, as well as on the wings and even on the reupholstered leather seats. But don't get us started on the built-in Paul Smith striped tea set...
