Five of the Best - Mitsubishi Concept X

Mitsubishi Concept X

We brought you the Concept Sportback last month from the Frankfurt show. That concept car was the first indication at the design of the keenly anticipated Evo X, though there were precious few technical details available. Fittingly, Mitsubishi chose the Tokyo show to reveal the new car's mechanicals and a design even closer to the production model, in the form of the Concept-X prototype.

The aggressive nose from the Sportback has been carried over, but it is allied to a saloon car shape more in keeping with the philosophy of the current Lancer. The show car was bestowed with an interior too, simple in design, but sporting plenty of black leather and silver aluminium trim and there was even a paddle-controlled clutchless transmission. That may not make production, but the high output turbocharged engine will, allied to an even more advanced four-wheel drive chassis. Hopefully the new car is as good on the track as it is to look at.
