Don't dismiss the Pivo as another odd concept car, however dubious its symmetrically designed body looks. Dwellers in congested Tokyo streets would appreciate the Pivo's compact and manoeuvrable size, while its biggest innovation is a cockpit that can rotate through 360 degrees, eliminating the need to ever have to reverse park.
The rotation is made possible by the use of drive-by-wire systems controlling the steering, brakes and gears so the car can be driven in either direction. Both sets of wheels can turn too depending on the situation.
Though there seems to have been a lot of engineering just to make parking easier, the Pivo showcases other useful technology, including a camera and monitor system built into the A-pillars to reduce blind spots, and a nifty new human-machine interface allowing the driver to control the infotainment systems with hand movements only. Expect to see these technologies in oh, say a decade or so...
