Formula for success: Stunning Red Bull replica created by a mother for her son, 4

It's the kind of car many Grand Prix fans would love to have, let alone a four-year-old boy.

But thanks to his mother's creative skills this lucky youngster gets to play his video games in this stunning construction- as well as indulging in a spot of drawing and reading when he feels like it.

It looks slick but this Sebastian Vettel wannabe is going nowhere fast.

It's only mid-February, but already the world's best parent contest for 2012 appears to be all sewn up by the child's Japanese mother. She spent a month working on the cardboard replica of the 2012 Red Bull Formula 1 race car, accurate from the tail wings to the logos on the nose.

As she describes in her blog, the woman - a dedicated fan of Red Bull and F1 champ Sebastian Vettel- says the project may still require tweaking, and she's not particularly happy with how the new nose came out.

Working from a frame built before the RB8 was revealed, she finished the car based on photos and videos from the car's official introduction earlier this month.

In addition to its detailed graphics and faithful reproduction of the aerodynamic bits, the car can fold up into thirds when not being used to speed Yoshi around on the Wii or as a desk for him to write on.

When asked if she could build a few more for non-family members, Formula Mum declined, simply encouraging others to build their own. Remember, all you need is some photos from the internet, cardboard and an eye for building race cars that would make Adrian Newey [chief technical officer for Red Bull] envious.

You've got the rest of the year to catch up, slackers.

My son in law built a large wooden scale model of a scallop trawler for my grandson's 3rd birthday. It was built in the double garage, when completed looked fabulous then the flaw in the plan became obvious, very large boat, simple to carry out the garage doors but it was for the back garden and no way was going to fit through the back door of the garage, soulution add several strong amature rugby player mates to carry it above head hight down the side passageway avoiding the 6' high fence down the middle of the passageway and man handle it into the back garden. Grandson and friends thrilled to bits with their very big ship.

I make birthday cards for people, but I'd love to learn up more on sewing so I can make my little girl clothes, and a hello kitty cushion. Simple goals but I think hand made things for people you love are priceless.

re mnjs coment. it might only be made of card but his loving mother put her heart into it . i would rather have something made from my daughters and grandchildren. it shows that a personal touch is much better. anyone can walk into a shop an grab a bit of moulded plastic of the shelf.
good on the japanese mother she put her heart into something special for her son.
nice to see the little fellas smiley face.
