Kia's conveyor belt of stunning concepts has delivered yet again with the unveiling of a four-door coupé to rival the Mercedes CLS.
It's a sign of how far Kia has come that it can be mentioned in the same sentence as Mercedes - let alone one of Mercedes-Benz's flagship cars.
The as-yet-unnamed coupé will be revealed (along with its name) at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Kia is saying nothing about production yet, though the car's designer is suggesting it could eventually get the green light.
Kia's Peter Shchreyer said: No matter from which perspective you look at it, this concept car is roaring with energy and ready for take-off. I believe the car is a strong statement from Kia: we are ready to fast forward to an all new chapter.”
Kia is gradually moving upmarket, and a four-seat, four-door coupé could be the perfect halo model - particularly if it undercuts the similar VW Passat CC significantly. If it does make showrooms, however, it will do so without the ornate carbon fibre wheels of the show car.
The concept is rear-wheel drive, which wouldn't be too costly for Kia to put into production because it has access to sister company Hyundai's Genesis coupé, which is rear-wheel drive
The Genesis isn't sold in the UK, but its chassis could be easily stretched to accommodate a sleek executive four-door like this.
