Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012: Historic racers

One of the big appeals of the Goodwood Festival of Speed is that you get to see racing cars that often spend the rest of their lives sitting in a museum or tucked up in someone’s heated garage. But better still, everyone of them gets blasted up the hill as fast as possible and against the clock – there’s no better way to experience these gems than in the white-heat of competition.

1953 Ferrari 250 MM

One of the classic endurance racers of the period, the MM tag refers to the Milie Miglia which its predecessor, the 250S, won the previous year. Based on that car but with a bigger 3.0-litre V12 engine, the 250 MM had the extra punch to make it a success. This car is owned by Nick Mason and is one of only 18 examples in the world.
