Goodwood Festival of Speed 2012: Historic racers

One of the big appeals of the Goodwood Festival of Speed is that you get to see racing cars that often spend the rest of their lives sitting in a museum or tucked up in someone’s heated garage. But better still, everyone of them gets blasted up the hill as fast as possible and against the clock – there’s no better way to experience these gems than in the white-heat of competition.

1987 Porsche 962C

A development of the successful 956, the 962 had a 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six enlarged from 2.65-litres and continued the German dominance of Le Mans throughout the 1980s. The 962 added victories in 1986 and 1987 to add to three wins earlier in the decade including a 1-2-3 in 1982.
